We wanted to do something special for Labor Day. I gave the girls a couple options: a trip to Kearney, a trip to Lincoln or a trip to Norfolk. They chose Norfolk.
We opted to leave Friday night and the drive north was an eventful one. With high school football season underway, we drove past no fewer than six stadiums – lit up in the darkness.
Thanks to my preferred hotel status, we were able to get a suite at the Holiday Inn. It was beyond our expectations. Not only was the room fabulously spacious, but we also enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. When we went to pick out a movie (each room had a TV and a DVD player), the front desk had a five-page long list of movies to choose from.
We also attended a nice mass Saturday night (because I had a race to cover Sunday morning) and dinner from Culver's – which was within walking distance. Even the drive back on Sunday afternoon was a fun one, as we went hunting for souvenirs at some of the truck stops along the way.
